Petersburg, Va.- Saint Joseph School in Petersburg is pleased to announce its plans for adding a 9th grade for the 2012-2013 school year. The school was granted approval for the expansion by the Richmond Catholic Diocese on Monday. After surviving a near shut down in 2008, enrollment and community involvement has increased significantly. Principal Pamela Hartnett said “we feel as if there is a great need for continuing a faith based education in the tri-cities. Parents and community leaders have expressed their desire for Saint Joseph’s to expand and be a preK-12 school. Student class size is up and now is the perfect time to grow”. Saint Joseph’s plans on adding a new 9th grade next year. An evaluation after that year will take place and if all goes well, a 10th grade will be added in 2013-2014, adding one grade each year there after. Money is currently being raised to rennovate LaVelle Hall, the 1932 building now vacant on the school’[s campus.
The high school will be housed in that building. Hartnett says,”we have a lot of work ahead of us but with all of our fabulous supporters, alumni, parents and the tri-city community, I have no doubt we will succeed”.
