Student Peace Pledge
I Pledge to do my duty, to respect myself, my fellow students and teachers.
I promise to take Pride in my work and promote school spirit throughout Saint Joseph School.
I will strive to make good choices and encourage others to do so.
I pledge that I will act as a Peacemaker in all that I say and do.
AWARDS
Awards are presented during monthly assemblies and at the end of the year awards assembly.
Peacemaker
Monthly awards are given to students who show peacemaking skills of respect, responsibility, compassion, and kindness towards others. Peacemaking habits are strongly encouraged and peacemakers are recognized and commended for their actions.
Honor Roll
Honor roll awards are given quarterly for academic achievement. They include Principal’s List, First Honors, and Second Honors.
Artist of the Month
Students who have done well on art projects in class during the month are recognized.
Attendance
Perfect attendance awards are given at the end of the school year.
ACTIVITIES
Art Shows
Student art is typically displayed in one to two public art shows in Old Towne Petersburg during Friday for the Arts.
Band
Instrumental music is taught during the school day to students in 4th grade on up who register for the program. There is an additional charge for band instruction, and instruments must be obtained by the student/family. The band usually has two concerts per year and performs at the Living Nativity in December.
Choir
Choir is an after school activity that usually meets once per week. The choir typically performs several times per year outside of the school and during the Living Nativity in December.
Field Trips
Field trips are planned through out the year in order to enrich learning.
Liturgy
Religious events for the entire school are held in the school auditorium or at Saint Joseph Church. Masses or prayer services from different faiths take place in the Convent Chapel, and classes from 1st grade on up will attend once per week.
Sports
The St. Joseph School Athletic Association manages the extra-curricular sports. Teams practice and play after school and include: soccer (co-ed), cheerleading (girls), basketball (boys and girls), baseball (co-ed). Parents are the volunteer coaches.
Scouts
Cub Scout Pack 915 meets on Wednesday nights at 7:00 pm in the school cafeteria. Cub Scouting is open to boys in grades 1 through 5. You do not have to be a student at St. Joseph School to join Pack 915 – students from any school and home schooled students are welcome.
