Summer Reading Lists

It’s a busy and exciting time of the year as our students begin to wrap up the school year. We are thankful that you’ve entrusted Saint Joseph Catholic School with your child’s education, whether it’s his/her first year or eighth year. As the school looks forward and expands its vision, we recognize that education does not stop in June; it is a continuous journey. Each student will partake in Summer Reading activities designed by his/her upcoming teacher. The teacher will meet with the upcoming class prior to the end of the school year to discuss the summer reading activities.

Our students need your support in ensuring that the summer reading activities are completed with rigor and academic vitality, whether in elementary or middle school. With the adoption of Guided Reading for the 2017-2018 school year, we understand the need to create lifelong readers in and out of the classroom. As we move into the second year of the program, it is important to continue enriching the milestones each student has gained.

All students, rising Kindergarten through rising 8th graders, were given their summer reading assignments by next year’s teacher. Students are already familiar with their assignments. Unless otherwise specified by the teacher, all work should be completed entirely by the student. We encourage parents to monitor the process as the activities are due within the first week of school and will be part of the 1st Marking Period assessment. During the first week of school, student activities will center around the reading activities; we want to ensure that each student is prepared. Copies of Summer Reading activities, grading, due dates and, rubric information are found hyperlinked below.
